Marcus Villa was a Survivor appearing in Dead Island: Riptide who serves as tertiary antagonist. He can be found in the village of Halai.

Background[]

Marcus was once a good associate of Dr. Kessler, who described his former friend as a brilliant man, albeit "in his own way." The two spent a great amount of time researching the kuru outbreaks that occurred throughout the Banoi Archipelago intermittently, specifically how the outbreaks can adapt to their surrounding environments, including from chemical weapons that were stored on the island of Palanai. The fruits of their fascination and research were eventually authored within a paper that was contained within a somewhat obscure journal.

For reasons never specified by Kessler, the two had a falling out with Marcus deciding to live amongst the island locals, renouncing his previous scientific longings to live a more peaceful life dedicated to admiring the natural beauty of Palanai. Unfortunately, the paper he wrote with Kessler came to the attention of the Consortium, a secretive and corrupt worldwide organization that were looking to weaponize the kuru outbreaks and combine it with chemicals to create a potent biological weapon to be sold throughout the globe. However, the Consortium viewed Marcus as far too unstable to serve as a viable pawn as his renouncement of his previous research could pose a problem. Thus, they turned their attention to Kessler, who was far more amenable to their inquires for further information and even agreed to aid the organization in conducting further experiments.

Since his renouncement of science, Marcus was known as a holy man that eventually turned to cannibalism and dark magic after spending a period of time living amongst the Palanai natives. He eventually tries to kill the Heroes, after believing by consuming the flesh of an immune, it would save him and serve as a sacrifice and end the Kuru outbreak. In a failed attempt to kill the Heroes, the Paradise Survival Camp is extensively burned, leaving the survivors with no choice but to relocate to the Halai Village. After the survivors move to Halai, they are given the option to pursue Marcus to prevent him from endangering anymore people. When pursued, he says he was simply trying to save everyone, but then attacks the Heroes who are forced to kill him and bringing an end to his madness.

Appearance[]

Marcus is an older man with balding black hair and a bushy moustache. He wears a yellow patterned shirt, black slacks held by a black belt with a few cases strapped to it, and black dress shoes. He also wears a few necklaces and a bandage on his left arm.

Trivia[]

  • After The Ritual, Hadisi, Batram, and Seni are never seen again. Since they are nowhere to be found in Mataka Village, there is a possibility Marcus could have killed them or they fled upon his return.
  • Marcus is the fourth person to betray the Heroes, after Charon pretended to be Ryder White, Vang Chi being forced to lure the Heroes into an ambush, and Pierre tricking the Heroes into collecting fuel for his generator without a reward.
  • Even thou he was important to Halai Village, the survivors never mention him again after he burns down the Paradise Survival Camp. They don't even acknowledge things like his banishment or his death when killed.
