Dead Island Wiki

The Mingende Jungle is the third map of the game. It is a hot, humid, river strewn tropical jungle area located in the centre of the Banoi Island. The Hero hears about this place for the first time at the Lifeguard Tower, where they hear the aircraft pilot's mayday call that it is attempting an emergency landing at the edge of the jungle, located north of Moresby.

It is the home of many of the native tribes left on Banoi, with small villages scattered across the Jungle. It is also the most dangerous place on Banoi. Being mostly lawless, powerful, bloodthirsty warloards terrorise the friendly locals, making travelling around a hassle if you don't want to be mugged or worse. As it is hot and humid, there are many small lakes and ponds full of water, some of which will flood and recede as the wet season comes and goes. There is also little infrastructure in the Jungle, with many places having no electricity and all the roads are simple dirt roads, the only concrete road being a highway which used to span across the Jungle.

However, it's also home to some of the natural beauty of Banoi, with many waterfalls and great clifftop views of Banoi. There are several rivers running through the Jungle, allowing you to experience first hand the dense and luscious plant life from the safety of a riverboat. Banoi is also home to some endangered species, such as Orangutans.

Tactics and Survival[]

While not as dense and cluttered as Moresby, the jungle can still present a challenge to traverse for an unprepared player due to the abundance of Floaters and, after completing the first quest, Butchers. Floaters we all know at this point from their introduction in the Sewers, but the Butcher is the most dangerous regular enemy you will find, acting as a tougher, more mobile and dangerous infected. They can sometimes blend in with the surrounding jungle due to their greenish skin and unless you're in a vehicle, they will cause trouble if unprepared.

The easiest way of traversing is through the jungle is by using a car, as there are several of them about and always several at the survivor safe houses. Due to the low population of people living in the jungle, the roads are clear and uncluttered other than a few zombies wandering about. The main threat of the jungle is the plentiful amount of jungle muggers and human enemies to fight, including Afran and Vargas.

Having some good weapons and firearms is nearly essential for this reason, as the amount of humans you need to deal with is in a far higher ratio than in Moresby. Get a good pistol, either through killing humans in Moresby, finding them in chests or purchasing them from Merchants. High damage weapons should be in arms reach on the weapon wheel for when you run into a Butcher or Floater.

Glitches[]

  • There are some areas of the centre mountainous area that can be walked through, allowing the character to no clip almost anywhere on the map.
  • Occasionally, the player may find foliage or trees floating in midair.

Trivia[]

  • During the quest King of the Swamp to go find Mowen in his hut, if you look on the map, you will see it is actually located on the same map as the jungle in the bottom left corner.
