Standard crate

Crates are items encountered in Dead Island. They are found in many locations throughout the Banoi Island. Some are encountered piled or scattered around and are merely decorative, though they can be used for climbing or jumping on. Some areas have makeshift barriers built using crates. Other crates can also be picked up and tossed. When carrying a crate, you can't sprint or run, nor swing a weapon, so you are very vulnerable to attack while carrying it.

Appearance[]

The crates appear as wooden square boxes, reinforced with metal strips to give them strength and retain their shape if they are hit or damaged. Some non-interractable boxes can be different colours, such as green or white and can also be rectangular, larger than normal boxes. The ones you can carry are always unpainted wood and square in size.

Usage[]

  • Counsel of Despair - you're asked by James at the Lighthouse to use the crates to complete the HELP sign out the back of the Lighthouse..
  • Visit to the Pub - to gain access to the pub, as the stairs are broken, you need to stack up some crates to access the pub.
  • Waterdance - to access the stage over the City Tunnel where one of the electricity switches is, you need to pile up some crates to climb a ladder to reach it.

Tips[]

  • Use crates to get away from oncoming zombies as they can't normally hit you once on top of the higher ones.
  • Use interactive type crates to toss at oncoming enemies.
  • If an area appears inaccessible, look for a pile of crates or barrels to climb on.
  • If using interactable crates, the player can put crates down in a specific spot. This could be used to climb rocks that lead outside of the boundaries, or to be able to find the Brown Skull altar.

Notes[]

  • The Orange Crates are mostly the ones that can be interacted others like Red or Green can but they're uncommon since they're only found in Moresby, and Mingende Jungle.
    • Red, and Green Crates are also mostly found as Standard models.
