A New Broom Sweeps Clean

A New Broom Sweeps Clean is a hard difficulty side-quest given to the Hero by Nick in Dead Island.

Synopsis[]

The Hero must enter the abandoned house and kill Bob, who has become infected and locked the group out of the house.

You'll hear Nick calling out from outside a house in the Waterfront of Moresby. Head over to him and his group and talk to him.
He explains that they desperately need to get back into the house, as they're sitting ducks for any infected in the open. They were locked out by one of their friends, Bob, who got infected. With his last humanity, he barricaded the door to prevent himself attacking Nick and the others. However, he inadvertently locked them out in the dangers of Moresby. Nick can't bring himself to kill Bob, so he asks you to get in, kill him and unbarricade the door.
There's a ladder on the side of the house facing the water. Use it to climb onto the roof and use the door up there to enter the house.
Bob is the only zombie inside the house, so you don't need to worry about getting surprised by something else while fighting him. That's a good thing as he's a Thug.
You'll come out in one of the side rooms of the house. Bob is located in front of the front door, in the hallway. Go out there and deal with him however you want.
Once he's dead, remove the barrier and interact with the door. The screen will black out for a moment before you return in the house with Nick and all the other survivors inside.
Talk to Nick to finish the quest.

One of the easiest ways to kill Bob is to use Molotov Cocktails. The room opposite the one the Hero arrives in has a door that can be opened and closed. Cross the hall and enter, closing the door behind. Use the minimap to watch Bob's position. When he returns to his starting position open the door, walk into the hall and lob a molotov at him. Head back into the room and close the door while it burns out. Depending on Bob's level it may take more than one to kill him, but this is an easy way of killing him with little risk to yourself.
After Nick and his survivors enter the house, it becomes a safe house that you can use. There's a workbench in here as well as a fast travel map on the wall.
You'll probably come across this quest when completing either The Second Head of Cerberus or Last Chance on the Wall, as both those side quests take you on a path directly past Nick and his survivors.

Sometimes the barricade bar needed to be removed to unlock the door is not there, making completion impossible. Quitting game and reloading solves this, although the player must kill Bob again. Using a Deo-Bomb will destroy the barricade bar. To avoid this, lure Bob into the hallway adjacent to the spawn point and use the bomb there.
