Bloody Mary Mod on baton.

The Bloody Mary Mod is a weapon mod featured in Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide. It was added to Dead Island in Patch 1.3. When used at a Workbench, the mod adds very heavy bleed damage and a bleed critical to Batons.

Overview[]

The Bloody Mary Mod is quite a late game mod, however it is well worth the wait to reach the locations where it is found. One of the final bleed mods you can get your hands on, the Bloody Mary Mod is quite expensive with 1,000 Cash and 16 various mod items to craft, but the bonuses it gives to the weapon will give a good return on investment. Aside from the base damage boost, the mod has quite a high crit chance at 8% and when it does crit, the bleed effect will last for a while, which when combined with the high crit chance means it has quite a high chance to cause bleeding on the first hit. The base batons also have a relatively fast swing speed, and when combined with the mod it means you can power through hordes with ease. In addition, the mod is also good for taking on high health Zombies such as the Thug and, especially, the Floater or Wrestler, who usually soak up damage. No enemy is immune to bleed effects, and with the swing speed and crit chance combined, the mod can very easily drain an enemy of health, making the fight quick and painless. Visually, the mod adds barbed wire wrapped around the length of the weapon, whilst a battery pack is taped to the handle with wires going part way up the main body.

The downside of the mod mainly comes from its limited scope of base weapons. It can only be applied to 3 batons, the Police Baton, Metal Baton and Heavy Baton, so if you don't have access to any of these weapons or can't find them anywhere, the mod is completely useless. In addition, the mod costs quite a lot, with the $1,000 cash requirement as well as quite a high crafting requirement in base mod items, some of which are in high demand for other mods like the Duct Tape, whilst Phones are quite difficult to get a hold of, since few Merchants sell them and when they do, they are quite expensive, and phones rarely appear in containers to loot. Alternate mods which are nearly as good and applicable to a wider array of base weapons include the Razor Mod, which is only one rank less of bleed and acquired in the Mingende Jungle, or the Diamond Edge Mod in Riptide, which whilst not as good, is applicable to far more base weapons.

Edit This Mod
Considering the circumstances we found ourselves in we have to cope with whatever we can. Thus, decided to devise the most effective weapon I could make from the parts I had handy. The result of my efforts is a metal club wrapped in to a barb wire and a couple other gadgets so thoughtfully that every poor bastard that finds himself on the business end of it is literally pissing blood.
In Dead Island, the mod is found in the Laboratory bathroom in the right-hand stall.
In Dead Island: Riptide, the mod is found in a square just north of Stan's House in Henderson.

Trivia[]

  • The Bloody Mary Mod is named after the Bloody Mary urban legend in which if a person turns off the lights in a bathroom and says the name three times, something would appear in the bathroom mirror. The mod coincidentally can be found in the Laboratory restroom.
  • The mod uses a high amount of electrical components, like Wire and Batteries, which are normally used for electrical mods. However, the Bloody Mary Mod has no electrical or impact effect, making it perplexing as to why these items are needed in the first place.
