The Defender of the Motherland is a variant of the Auto Rifle and a Legendary firearm featured in Dead Island, rarely available from Metal chests or killed Zombies. It can only begin to appear past player level 20.
Overview[]
As a legendary auto rifle, the Defender of the Motherland is just it but better. It features good damage per bullet with excellent accuracy for an auto rifle. It also has very little recoil in comparison, meaning it's quite easy to accurately aim for headshots and reliably hit them. It's very good for killing hordes of zombies like Walkers and due to being an auto rifle, it's excellent for killing Thugs and other high health enemies. Whilst Rifle Ammo is difficult to get hold of, if you can build up, the Defender of the Motherland is a potent weapon to have in your arsenal. It is also very useful in the Prison, where a higher abundance of rifle ammo is present.

Notes[]
- Like any firearm, Purna Jackson is the best character to use the Defender of the Motherland with, as she get various bonuses from her skills for firearms.
- Due to requiring player level 20 to have a chance to appear in metal chests and on killed zombies, the weapon is impossible to obtain in Ryder White's Campaign due to Ryder White's permanent level 15 cap.
- In the Definitive Edition, the Defender is even easier to use! The rifle comes equipped with a red dot sight, something very beneficial to help with lining up headshots.
Trivia[]
- The weapon resembles a Kalashnikov AKS-74U, due to the shortened barrel and gas block.
- As of patch 1.3 this weapon is no longer available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Dead Island
