"In times like these, you think people would pull together."

The combat in Dead Island is mainly focused on melee weapons such as baseball bats, hammers, pieces of wood, samurai swords and more. The player's character can also use hand to hand combat. Firearms are also available in Dead Island, but they are rare and ammunition is just as scarce, so they are designed to be used sparingly.
Melee is mainly used for combat until later in the game, larger firearms and ammo become more abundant once the player reaches the Jungle scenario in Act III and on. A revolver can be obtained in the first act by doing a side quest but it will only have 1 round in it. Also, Raskols will normally have small firearms which can be collected in various locations near the Church in Act II and on.
Thrown explosives are also available to the player, but should be used wisely.
