A Matter of Honor is a medium difficulty side quest given to the Hero by Makimbah in Dead Island.
Synopsis[]
The Hero is tasked to go and find Makimbah's bride who was kidnapped by someone from a different village.
Walkthrough[]
- Talk to Makimbah to start the quest.
- He'll explain that his bride was kidnapped by someone from a neighbouring village. He's meant to go and reclaim her himself to restore his honour, but he's too scared. If you find and return his bride to him, he'll give you his father's machete, as he dishonours it.
- Makimbah's bride, called Mahina, is actually in the River Village, so you can easily fast travel there. If you don't want to however, you can take one of the many Jeeps outside the Overpass Camp and drive to the village.
- Once there, head up the long, curved wooden bridge from the road. However, around halfway up, jump onto the roof of the huts below. Mahina is in the hut furthest away and there's no open door to get in, so you have to get in through a hole in the roof.
- Once you're on the roof of the huts, run to the farthest one and drop down the hole to inside the hut. There's a ladder for you to get out, don't worry.
- Mahina is inside with man. She explains that Makimbah is abusive and was always hurting her, which is why she ran away. She found a man at the River Village who treats her well and doesn't hurt her. She wants you to tell Makimbah she's dead, and to convince him she wants you to retrieve her necklace from Gaia Falls, where she threw it away to forget about Makimbah.
- Exit the hut via the ladder to the roof and start to trek out the village entrance. The way to Gaia Falls is straightforward, as its the same route as you took with Jin to reach the village in the first place during the main quest Welcome to the Jungle.
- Once you reach Gaia Falls, you need to look for the necklace. It's not expressly shown where it is, but I'll tell you. Jump off the bridge onto the roof of the bus and search the bags on top. There's a duffle bag up there that contains the necklace when you search it. I suggest clearing the area of zombies first, though, as they can cause you some problems, especially the Floater.
- Once you have the necklace, return to Makimbah. You can either press on past Gaia Falls and return via the roadway, or you can double back to the River Village and fast travel to the Overpass Camp.
- Either way, once you reach him, talk to Makimbah to complete the quest and get your reward.
Notes[]
- There's a metal chest on top of the bus at Gaia Falls.
Glitches[]
- Exiting the game via the menu after collecting the necklace will remove the necklace from the player's inventory, forcing them to go back in order to get it again.
- Mahina's question is actually a quest option. Instead of a new quest it apparently updates this one. I chose Yes--to do things her way--but No may take a different route (a fight with the man in the room seemed likely, possibly followed by an escort mission). The quest page she offers you still offers the 3000 XP but leaves off the possibility of the Machete.
- If you search the bag on the roof of the bus before taking this quest, it will always briefly flash up with 'Mahina's Necklace' before showing up empty, since you can't get the necklace without taking this quest first.
